Chicago PD and FBI crossover: 3 things we need in the episode
3. An Erin Lindsay reference
Longtime One Chicago fans no doubt had their ears burning as soon as the phrase “New York” was said last night. When Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) was written out at the end of Chicago PD season 4, it was to get a fresh start in New York, working for the FBI. The same organization that Upton is now collaborating with.
Don’t hold your breath to actually see Erin in this episode. With everything Sophia Bush stated after she left the series, it’s clear that she has moved well on from the One Chicago franchise. And with the comments Dick Wolf made after her departure about the series being able to survive without her, it would seem like there’s no priority on the production end to bring her character back either.
However, that doesn’t mean the show can’t slip in a single line about her or what she’s doing at the moment. Fans have continued to ask about Erin Lindsay over the last three seasons, and we’ve only gotten vague info from when she was possibly at risk during the whole Denny Woods storyline on Chicago PD. Just making a mention of her would mean a lot to a whole lot of people, and it’s not difficult to do. Upton could just say, “I know someone who works here” and one of the FBI characters could have seen Erin around or say she’s no longer in New York.
Plus, given that Lindsay was Upton’s predecessor in Intelligence and someone that she worked directly with—as well as someone very important to Upton’s partner and love interest Halstead—it would feel odd if Hailey didn’t ask about her. So let’s hope that the Wolf universe doesn’t forget that part of its canon.
