Tonight’s FBI season finale includes a Chicago PD crossover. Find out what to watch for in Emotional Rescue with our FBI season 2, episode 19 preview.

One Chicago fans will want to tune into Dick Wolf‘s FBI on Tuesday, because Chicago PD is joining the case—but it’s not a full-blown crossover.

The CBS series is featuring Tracy Spiridakos as her Chicago PD character Hailey Upton in tonight’s episode, entitled “Emotional Rescue.” Upton has come to New York on a temporary assignment to help the Bureau.

She partners with FBI character Special Agent OA Zidan (Zeeko Zaki) on a federal drug case, and it’s no spoiler to say that the investigation winds up being much bigger than originally expected.

More from Chicago PD

This is an FBI season 2 episode first and foremost, so Chicago PD viewers tuning in should keep that in mind; while Upton appears to get a lot of screen time based on the promo that CBS is airing (which you can watch below) the focus of the episode will be on the existing characters.

That being said, this will be different than the usual crossovers, because there are multiple ties to the One Chicago franchise beyond just Tracy Spiridakos appearing.

Rick Eid, who is also the executive producer and showrunner of Chicago PD, co-wrote the episode so Upton’s appearance is being written by someone who knows the character. And the director of “Emotional Rescue” is Chicago Fire alum Monica Raymund.

That should make this episode interesting for viewers of both shows. On one hand, it’s not a One Chicago crossover event, but there’s enough involvement from people familiar with the fandom that it should still be high-quality.

The question is how big the plot of this episode will be in terms of scope. This episode is also the FBI season finale, but it was not intended to be the finale; the season is being abbreviated due to current events. So it’s not going to have a huge plot twist or cliffhanger like a normal finale would.

At the same time, you have to figure that Eid and co-writer Joe Halpin wouldn’t do a crossover if it wasn’t going to be a suitably big episode. There should still be a buzzworthy moment or two in there somewhere.

It’s all something of a balancing act—between two shows, between two tones, and between two characters from totally different units in Upton and OA—so if nothing else, “Emotional Rescue” is worth the watch just to see how Eid and company pull it all together.
