2. Will Burzek get back together or grow further apart?

Chicago PD season 7 looked like it was going to be the season of Burzek, but instead the on-again, off-again couple has just been put through the wringer. Things seemed to start off so well with their hookup after the One Chicago “Infection” crossover, which then led to Kim Burgess’ (Marina Squerciati) pregnancy.

But they had to have said unborn child taken away from them when Kim suffered a miscarriage in “I Was Here.” And before that, she turned down another marriage proposal from Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). While the pregnancy has been brought up in later episodes this season, we don’t know if their romance will ever be reignited.

Current evidence points to things getting less clear in the remaining episodes. Next Wednesday’s installment “Buried Secrets” centers on Ruzek, and according to NBC’s official synopsis, he decides to put some distance between himself and Burgess.

First it was Kim who was distancing herself from Adam, which made sense given her bevy of emotions after suffering a miscarriage. Fans haven’t forgotten the intense locker room scene in “Burden of Truth” that finally saw Burgess explode. You could feel the raw emotion coming from Kim, and even though Adam insisted he didn’t blame her, it showed that they weren’t on the same page anymore.

Now for Adam to do the same to Kim? It’s got to be one hell of a case to make him put some space between them just when we thought they were getting somewhere. Burgess gave Ruzek some hockey tickets as a “thank you” during “Intimate Violence” and seemed like she genuinely wanted to mend things between them.

But will they get there in time? And if they do reconcile, will it be as a couple or will they decide that they just want to be friends again after everything?

The indecisiveness is such a shame, as Burzek has a real potential to have a civilized relationship. If Chicago PD does leave their status up in the air, it’ll be upsetting for fans who have spent years wanting them to get back together and thought that this would be the season they did.

While it’s understandable that there’s been some turbulence between them—going from friends to getting back together to expecting a child and then not is a roller coaster for any relationship—the show hasn’t fully committed to Burzek. They definitely have feelings for one another, but they keep getting pushed apart, too, and it doesn’t seem like we’ll see them take that big step forward that they deserve this season.
