The search for Dylan

Atwater and Rojas use the date of Dylan’s disappearance and are able to find surveillance footage of Wade’s Range Rover, showing him meeting with Dylan. Voight goes back to Wade one more time; Wade says they were not romantically involved, but he was trying to help Dylan with his drug abuse and mental health issues. So why is the car from Charlotte’s kidnapping outside Dylan’s last known address?

When Intelligence arrives on the scene, we get another Chicago PD shootout. “Make any move to come inside and I will kill her,” a voice says from inside the house. That voice belongs to Gary Stevens, and Voight begins to negotiate with him for Charlotte’s safe release. Gary claims he never asked Wade for money; what he wants is the truth about Dylan.

While Halstead covers the team’s bases by setting up his long gun across the street, Voight hauls Wade onto the scene and tells him the score. A panicked Wade would rather see Gary shot than explain anything. Voight’s response is to put Wade on the phone with Gary, who shoves Charlotte into the window and puts a gun to her head.

A single shot rings out seconds later, but it’s from Halstead; he’s given the rest of the squad enough time to breach the house. Ruzek finds both Gary and Charlotte still alive (although Gary is wounded), and begins his own negotiation by letting himself into the room. Then he does what every good cop should do: he gets Gary talking. “Dylan told me he was going to confront Wade about his lies,” Gary says. “Wade kept promising that he was going to leave his family so he and Dylan could finally be together. I think Wade killed my son, so his family would never have to know.”

Burgess and Rojas continue to dig into Wade, and find a photo that shows what appears to be Dylan slumped over in the seat of Wade’s Range Rover. The final minutes of Chicago PD involve Burgess and Rojas speeding back to the Henslow home, showing Wade’s wife the photos, and searching the Range Rover. Someone tried to clean it but missed some blood inside. Charlotte’s mom realizes with horror that when she came home on the day of the abduction, her husband was in the woods near their house.

Our heroes break out the police canines as Gary continues to bleed to death. Burgess and Rojas find Dylan’s body, and Ruzek is able to get Charlotte away from a weakened Gary. With the man’s last few moments of life, he sees a picture of Dylan’s body on Ruzek’s cell phone, and then he dies with his closure. A traumatized Charlotte ignores her father, who is arrested for murder while Voight calls him a “piece of garbage.”

In the locker room, Ruzek and Burgess have another conversation. This time it’s Ruzek who wants to take Burgess out. “I’ve been trying to have some fun, get my minds off of things,” he tells her, saying it’s not working. He tells her that going to dinner with her would make him smile, and she agrees to go out with him.
