Why isn’t Chicago Fire new tonight, April 22? Find out is Chicago Fire on NBC tonight and why the network isn’t airing a new Chicago Fire season 8 episode.

Why isn’t Chicago Fire new tonight, April 22? If you’re wondering why NBC isn’t showing a new installment of the One Chicago firefighting drama, we have the answer for you.

This Wednesday involves a second showing of the episode “A Chicago Welcome” which originally aired on Feb. 5 as the 13th episode of Chicago Fire season 8. Fans will remember this one as the episode where Firehouse 51’s nemesis from last season, Jerry Gorsch (recurring guest star Steven Boyer), reappears.

But instead of trying to make everyone’s lives worse, Gorsch claims that he needs the firehouse’s help with an important initiative. Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) has to sort out if Gorsch is telling the truth or if he has some kind of ulterior motive for his altrustic mission.

The episode also features an incredible guest performance by TV legend David Selby (Dark Shadows) as a man whom Firehouse 51 rescues from a house fire. You can read our interview with David Selby about this episode here.

This might be the most emotional episode of the season—but why isn’t Chicago Fire new tonight? Unfortunately, that’s because there are no new episodes left to air. The coronavirus pandemic led to production on season 8 being shut down before the cast and crew could finish filming the whole season, and they wound up three episodes short.

That made last Wednesday’s episode the season finale, and NBC is airing reruns to fill the spaces where the missing episodes would have been. It’s not clear yet if they’ll continue to do so all the way until the original season finale date in May, but at least One Chicago viewers have something to watch this week, and it’s a pretty good choice.

You can also find other episodes on Hulu (with subscription) and Peacock (if you’re an Xfinity cable subscriber).
