Why isn’t Chicago Med new tonight, April 22? If you’re wondering why NBC isn’t showing a new installment of the One Chicago medical drama, we have the answer for you.

This Wednesday the network is teeing up an encore presentation of “It May Not Be Forever” which originally aired on Feb. 12. It’s the 14th episode of Chicago Med season 5, and the second repeat that’s been planned in four weeks.

In this episode, Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) find themselves at loggerheads when an abuse victim has to make decisions regarding her abuser’s medical care.

Natalie believes the spousal abuse means she shouldn’t be allowed to have that power, while Marcel insists that the woman is still their patient’s husband and wants to respect her legal right as his medical proxy.

Elsewhere, Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) teams up with medical student Elsa Curry on the case of a young boy who may have been misdiagnosed. Can they wake him up and reunite him with his family?

It’s not the busiest episode, but there’s a reason viewers are seeing it again—because the fifth season ended ahead of schedule last Wednesday. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, production was unable to be completed on the three remaining episodes, and so NBC doesn’t have any new episodes left to air.

That’s why isn’t Chicago Med new tonight, but at least an episode is on the air. And if you want to watch other episodes this week, you can see the current season on Hulu (via subscription) and on Peacock (if you’re an Xfinity customer).

This is likely to be the first of several reruns over the next few weeks, as NBC tries to bridge the gap between last week’s finale date and the original season finale date in May.
