Why isn’t Chicago PD new tonight, April 22? Find out is Chicago PD on NBC tonight and why the network isn’t airing a new Chicago PD season 7 episode.

Why isn’t Chicago PD new tonight, April 22? If you’re wondering why NBC isn’t showing a new installment of the One Chicago police drama, we have the answer for you.

This Wednesday, instead of something fresh, One Chicago viewers will be getting another look at the prior episode “The Devil You Know.” This was the 12th episode of Chicago PD season 7, and it originally aired on Jan. 22.

Stepping back in time means that audiences will get to see Michael Beach again as drug dealer and unwilling confidential informant Darius Walker. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) is prompted to ask Darius for help when Intelligence’s next targets are a group of corrupt cops.

That doesn’t go over well with Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), given that she wants revenge for the death of her own informant. Upton has Darius square in her personal crosshairs, and she may be willing to cross Voight in order to accomplish her own personal mission.

It’s an interesting episode to revisit, because this is the big episode where Upton starts her spiral downward that ultimately leads her to being shipped to New York later in the season.

But why isn’t Chicago PD new tonight? Well, that’s also kind of thorny. NBC doesn’t have any more new episodes that they can show, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Production on season 7 shut down ahead of schedule in order to ensure the safety of the cast and crew, so there were episodes that did not get shot this season.

As such, last week’s episode served as the season finale, and the network is filling the space left where three missing episodes would have been by serving up reruns. While it’s not ideal, at least audiences have a chance to watch something tonight.

Fans can find other Chicago PD episodes on Hulu (current season only with subscription) and on Peacock (prior seasons, with subscription, and only if you’re an Xfinity subscriber). Keep your eyes open, as other repeats will likely pop up on NBC for the next few weeks. You can see the complete network schedule by clicking the banner below.
