Chicago Med season 5 character review: Crockett Marcel
Our prognosis
Crockett Marcel will never be Connor Rhodes, but the problem of getting rid of Connor is separate from the character of Crockett. It’s not Dominic Rains’ fault what happened before him, and his character certainly isn’t going anywhere. So fans ought to look ahead and look at the potential of Crockett. What can he bring to the table that Chicago Med doesn’t have right now?
Rains seems like he has much more to offer acting-wise than we’ve seen from him so far. He has yet to have a big, emotional episode, but knowing the writers of this show, one will happen for him eventually and then we should see his full range. The Chicago Med season 5 finale proved that Crockett is actually more layered than his flippant persona shows. That’s the guy who’s interesting and more watchable than the one floating through the ED trying to take over cases.
If the scripts dig into Crockett next season and present him with some great medical and moral challenges that he has to solve on his own (as opposed to the ones he solved with Choi, which always had some Chexton undertone to them) he could wind up being a great addition. But the need to put him immediately into a ship with Natalie right after all the Chexton stuff has blown over is worrisome. It gives the impression that Crockett’s romantic life is more important than developing his professional one.
Hopefully that won’t be the case, but given Chicago Med‘s recent emphasis on romance, it’s hard to say. If what we get is another Manstead, then Crockett might continue down the path of being another Ava. If not, then watch this space because season 6 will be his breakout season.
