What happened in Chicago Med season 5 for April Sexton
April Sexton was front and center in the latest Chicago Med season, but even though she had some of the most screen time, her material was mostly one-dimensional. Most of what April dealt with this season was related to her personal life—and her screwing it up.
Things originally looked bright for April and Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee); once they got back together, they immediately started talking about having a child together, and began to try for a baby. That proved to be a struggle, as they had difficulty conceiving and April ultimately made the decision to try in vitro fertilization (IVF). The IVF situation came to a head when Choi discovered that April had been taking too much medication, desperate for the treatment to work.
But that wasn’t the only issue. Choi was incredibly eager to start a family and settle down with April, proposing to her at midseason. April, on the other hand, waffled on what she wanted. After she spurned a romantic advance from Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains), April’s uncertainty with Choi prompted her to kiss Crockett anyway. She then proceeded to keep that information from Choi, only telling him that she had been unfaithful when she was lying in a hospital bed.
Though Choi took more of his anger out on Crockett than April, he ultimately called off their engagement, and April moved out of his apartment. The duo ended the season still apart, but chances are they’ll get back together for the third time—April was lovesick over Choi and rushing to his side when he was in a hostage situation.
