Our Chicago Med season 6 prognosis for Ethan Choi

We spoke about this in April’s character review, but don’t expect Choi and April to be estranged for long. April wants him back, Choi admitted in the season finale that he “screwed up” with her, and most importantly, Chexton is the show’s new favorite relationship. That could change once Crockett and Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) get together, but for now, they’re front and center.

But will Choi be any different because of what he’s just been through? Will he slow down until he can trust April again? Will he take a breath and bring himself back down to earth? Or will the show just have them get back together like everything’s fine? After all, there’s a history on this series of putting aside story arcs and characters once they’re no longer the focus of a season. And it would be incredibly frustrating if Choi was hurt and angry this season, then just shrugged it off next time around.

There also ought to be some professional consequences for the fact that he physically assaulted another doctor not once, but twice, and at least the first time had plenty of witnesses. There was one scene of Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) talking to Choi, but she didn’t discipline him for behavior that would likely get someone suspended if not fired. It made the whole hospital look a little strange when nobody seemed all that bothered.

Unlike April, it doesn’t seem like there are many directions for Choi to move in professionally; with the focus on the Emergency Department, it’d be hard to promote him since the show already has an ED chief in James Lanik (recurring guest star Nate Santana). But if there was ever a time for Choi to take a step back and focus on his career, season 6 would be it. Remember the doctor who once helped save a panda and offered food for thought about human nature? That guy needs to make a comeback.
