What happened in Chicago Med season 5 for Maggie Lockwood

Maggie’s season on Chicago Med was somewhat similar to Joe Cruz’s season on Chicago Fire: it started with a massively negative event and finished with a wedding.

The season began with the show confirming that Maggie did, in fact, have cancer and she was in treatment for it. Maggie not only struggled with the disease itself, but with telling her colleagues at the hospital and maintaining her duties as well. One of the most moving scenes of the season was her revealing her diagnosis to her fellow nurses by removing her wig. She also stepped down as hybrid OR nurse, and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) took her place in that role.

But Maggie’s cancer battle then took a slight turn, as she met fellow patient Ben (recurring guest star Charles Malik Whitfield). The two hooked up on the very same day that they met, and Maggie supported Ben through his battle—perhaps a little too much. When she was convinced that he was going to die, Maggie forged Dr. Natalie Manning’s (Torrey DeVitto) signature on paperwork so that Ben could leave the hospital and go home. Natalie found out, but Maggie didn’t suffer any consequences for her actions.

Instead, Ben made a surprising recovery, Maggie found out that her treatments worked, and the two got married near the end of the season. They also decided to serve as foster parents to a boy named Auggie after his original foster family changed their minds about him. So to say Maggie had a busy season is kind of an understatement!
