One Chicago fans’ tentative 2020 fall TV schedule
Thursday
LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT (NBC at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT; no premiere date yet): Dick Wolf’s longest-running series starts its 22nd season this fall. Mariska Hargitay continues to be the center of the popular series as Captain Olivia Benson, running the Special Victims Unit that investigates New York’s sex crimes. Hargitay’s colleagues Kelli Giddish, Ice-T, Peter Scanavino, and recent addition Jamie Gray Hyder (Graceland) are also returning. There hasn’t been a One Chicago crossover in awhile, so could 2020 start that up again?
LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME (NBC at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT; premiere date also TBA): The highly anticipated SVU spinoff starring Christopher Meloni, who reprises his role as Benson’s ex-partner Elliot Stabler. After a personal tragedy—which is probably the death of his wife—Stabler comes out of retirement to lead a new Organized Crime unit in the NYPD. The show was originally intended for NBC’s streaming service Peacock, but moved to the network to help bolster NBC’s schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic. Former Chicago PD showrunner Matt Olmstead is expected to be the executive producer and showrunner.
Sunday
THE ROOKIE (ABC at 10:00 p.m.; no confirmed premiere date): One Chicago alum Mekia Cox, who recurred as Dr. Robin Charles during the second season of Chicago Med and returned for guest bits in seasons 3 and 4, is a series regular. Nathan Fillion (Castle) stars as John Nolan, while Cox plays Nolan’s latest training officer, Nyla Harper. The Rookie is going into its third season on ABC, picking up after a two-part season finale where Detective Nick Armstrong (recurring guest star Harold Perrineau) was revealed to be a dirty cop.
