Chicago Med alum Garcelle Beauvais named The Real host
Garcelle Beauvais has joined daytime talk show The Real.
Garcelle Beauvais won’t be returning to Chicago Med, but she’s continuing to expand her profile in the unscripted TV space.
The actress, who recurred as Bert Goodwin’s girlfriend Lyla Dempsey during Chicago Med season 3, has been named co-host of The Real. She’ll replace Tamera Mowry-Housley on the talk show starting Sept. 21.
The Real airs weekdays in syndication, so fans should check their local TV listings to find when and where it’s on in your area.

“I am thrilled to be joining the dynamic, bold and diverse women on the award-winning talk show The Real,” Beauvais told Variety, which broke the news of her new role. “My love for pop culture and news, blended with my natural gift of gab, has always made me gravitate towards a talk show environment.”
It won’t be her first hosting gig; Beauvais previously was one of the hosts on the syndicated entertainment newsmagazine Hollywood Today Live.
Over the past year, though, she’s done a lot to branch her career out into unscripted projects and not just acting roles.
Beauvais also joined Bravo‘s reality TV series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for its current season 10, making her the first African-American woman to be a series regular on that show. She was a guest on The Real just a few months ago discussing Real Housewives.
Then in April she inked a deal with MGM for her own podcast, Going to Bed with Garcelle, which has been on Apple Podcasts since May. Guests so far have included actresses Meagan Good and Rebecca Romijn, The Bachelorette‘s Rachel Lindsay, and Jeannie Mai, who also co-hosts The Real alongside Loni Love and Adrienne Haughton.
Don’t expect Garcelle Beauvais to return to Chicago Med, though; her character was killed off in the third season, and Bert is now dating his ex-wife Sharon (S. Epatha Merkerson).
