What we’re most looking forward to from One Chicago season premieres
Chicago Med season 6
What we want from the next Chicago Med season is simple: more medicine. In season 5, there were episodes where the cases felt more like vehicles to further the storyline for a character or couple. While viewers care about the characters’ personal lives, the characters also made a lot of choices that had the audience questioning their professionalism throughout the season.
There have been some incredible cases of the week on this show. Particularly in the first few seasons it delivered some poignant and thought-provoking stories. The second season had a real commentary on mental health with Robin Charles’ (Mekia Cox) ongoing subplot, and also made a wonderful point about medical conditions and disabilities with Dr. Isidore Latham (Ato Essandoh). And those are just two examples.
But in seasons 4 and 5, the most memorable plot points have usually been about a ship, whether it’s couples getting together, breaking up, or even getting married. The medical aspect of the show hasn’t been as prominent, and it’s been missed. We know that the writers can do incredible cases and present wonderful moral and medical dilemmas—so let’s see more of those next season.
And let’s have more of them that stand on their own, having nothing to do with someone’s relationship. It’s not just about having an interesting case; it’s about having a case that doesn’t end up overshadowed by what it reveals about a character or a couple. There can be great patients who are just great patients. Remember, this is also the show that’s had Betty Buckley guest star!
