Chicago Fire

Who’s out: Annie Ilonzeh was the first person to leave in the One Chicago offseason. Ilonzeh will not be returning as paramedic Emily Foster after two seasons after producers chose not to bring her back for season 9.

It has yet to be announced if Ilonzeh will return during the upcoming season to give her character a final goodbye, akin to what happened with her predecessor Monica Raymund. On-screen, Foster was last seen attending her interview to re-apply to medical school at Northwestern, so it might be that she’s gone back to med school between seasons and isn’t seen again.

And to address a popular fan theory: there is currently no evidence that Foster will appear in any episodes of Chicago Med once she becomes a med student again. That’s not to say she won’t (hey, if Jeff Clarke could do it years later…) but no such thing is official right now.

Who’s in: Daniel Kyri has been promoted from recurring guest star to series regular after playing firefighter Darren Ritter since season 7. Ritter has appeared in plenty of episodes over the last two seasons, so Kyri’s promotion could even be considered a mere formality. But at least we’ll see more of Ritter with Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende).

Adriyan Rae was hired to replace Annie Ilonzeh. Rae will automatically be a main cast member (as opposed to starting as recurring) in Chicago Fire season 9. The Vagrant Queen star joins the One Chicago universe as paramedic Gianna Mackey. It will be her first starring role on a procedural and Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) will now be on her third partner.
