Kamal Angelo Bolden will star in Hulu’s comedy Vacation Friends.

Kamal Angelo Bolden didn’t return to Chicago Fire, but he’s booked a leading role in the upcoming Hulu movie Vacation Friends according to a Deadline report.

Bolden was introduced near the end of Chicago Fire season 5 as Jason Kannell, a firefighter whom Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) brought into Firehouse 51 after a tragedy.

The actor was recurring with an option to become a series regular but producers chose not to pick up that option and Kannell was referenced just once early in season 6. He has never been seen on the show again.

Chicago Fire went on to add Darren Ritter (played by Daniel Kyri), who was recently promoted to a regular after two seasons of recurring.

Vacation Friends centers on a couple who encounter some rowdy new friends when they vacation in Mexico. But when the mild-mannered couple try to return to their normal lives, they find out that their hard-partying new friends won’t leave them alone.

The cast also includes John Cena, Lil Rel Howery, Supernatural‘s Robert Wisdom and Greenleaf star Lynn Whitfield among others. The movie doesn’t have a release date yet, and no details are available on who Kamal Angelo Bolden is playing.

Since his last Chicago Fire episode aired in 2017 the actor has guest-starred in episodes of NCIS and The Resident. He’s also appeared in the movies Ravers and Keys to the City.

If you only know him as Jason Kannell, you haven’t gotten to see Bolden’s comedic side yet, as his One Chicago storyline was incredibly serious. Vacation Friends sounds like not only is it going to be a comedy but it’s going to be a pretty outrageous one—something completely different. Keep an eye out for this movie, which if it’s casting now will probably hit Hulu sometime next year.
