There’s a lot to unpack in Away so this is something that viewers will want to check out—Ato Essandoh first jumps into the discussion just before the 10:30 mark, and has a great point about how astronauts are looked up to as larger than life heroes, while we tend to forget that they are also human beings like the rest of us.
In general, it’s just fantastic that he’s getting a wider platform not only for his acting talents but for his own point of view; he always raises the level of discussion with any project that he’s on, including his role as Dr. Isidore Latham on Chicago Med.
While there’s no word yet on whether or not his current series will get a second season, this new discussion does indicate that there’s still plenty more that Away could dig into if Netflix does bring it back for another go-around.
The Paley Center for Media hosts its PaleyFest Fall TV Previews annually, with cast and crew members from some of the most anticipated shows participating in screenings and Q&A panels afterward. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has now moved online, but that also opens it up to a much wider audience. You can see the full lineup of panels here.
