In this article, we’re profiling Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati).
Where we left off
Kim Burgess had a very weird seventh season of Chicago PD. For part of the season, she felt like she was terribly underused and then, when the show did get around to her, it turned her whole life upside down and backwards.
Burgess’s season 7 will mostly be remembered for her rekindling her relationship with ex-fiance Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). The two had an impulsive hookup at the end of the “Infection” three-part crossover event, and Burgess later realized she was pregnant with Ruzek’s child. She initially thought of terminating the pregnancy as she wasn’t prepared to give up her Intelligence career but changed her mind after handling a child abduction case.
Unfortunately, Chicago PD ended up taking that whole issue out of her hands. The episode “I Was Here” saw a pregnant Burgess beaten to within an inch of her life when she tried to save a young woman from a killer, and she lost her unborn child as a result. It was yet another miscarriage on a One Chicago series. Burgess carried around self-loathing afterward that culminated in exploding at Ruzek.
While Adam was revealed to be sleeping with a bartender in “Buried Secrets” he still had feelings for Kim, and vice versa, and the two went out to dinner together at the end of the episode. So are they back on for good again? And if so, where is their relationship going to head this time? More importantly, who is Kim Burgess going to be after everything she’s just been put through?
