Chicago PD season 8 character preview: Hank Voight
What will happen
Unfortunately, don’t expect Hank Voight to be that much different in season 8. Chicago PD knows he’s the character that made the show popular in the first place, and the writers might not want to mess with success that much (or they could have done it before).
He might throttle back for an episode or two, but a permanent character change seems unlikely. Not only is Voight the definition of “creature of habit,” but he doesn’t have anyone around him that he can confide in or that balances him out anymore. Lindsay is gone, Olinsky is gone, and Antonio is gone. Who’s going to give him something to think about or support him as he navigates the new normal?
It’s not going to be a new police boss he hardly knows. It could have been Upton, since the show is exploring some kind of dynamic between them, but Upton is basically a junior Voight now. She’s more likely to agree with him than disagree. When Halstead tried to push him, he was apologizing for doing it an episode later.
Whatever happens with Voight, it’s going to be very hard for it to stick, and he may also have more issues within the unit to deal with—after all, there’s at least one new character coming in to fill the spot left behind by the exiting Vanessa Rojas.
