In this article, we’re profiling Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer).

Where we left off

Brett returned to Chicago and Firehouse 51 after a brief stint living in Fowlerton, breaking off her engagement to Kyle Sheffield in the process. She didn’t take any steps forward in dealing with her feelings for Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), though she leaned on him heavily throughout most of season 8.

That’s because Sylvie was surprised by her birth mother Julie deciding to reach out to her. At first she had to decide whether or not to make contact with the woman (even missing one of the One Chicago crossovers while going to Julie’s house). Then she had to navigate that relationship. And last but not least, Brett dealt with Julie being pregnant, her birth mother moving to Chicago, and the idea of her having a half-sibling.

But then, in true One Chicago fashion, the story had a tragic ending. Julie died giving birth to the new baby, and her husband later told Brett that the duo were moving back out of Chicago. Plus, then she found out her partner Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) was also wanting to leave, and Brett was last seen meeting Foster after her interview to re-enter medical school.
