In this article, we’re profiling Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo).

Where we left off

Stella seemed to be Firehouse 51’s golden girl at the start of season 8. Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) selected her to go to a prestigious department leadership conference, even though the conference was intended for officers only. And though Stella was nervous about being there, Chicago Fire had her show up all those officers and make a strong impression by the end of the conference.

After that, Boden got Stella a job as an instructor at the Chicago Fire Department academy, which resulted in her pulling double duty for some time. This eventually exhausted her and in the episode “Best Friend Magic” she caused a car accident due to her falling asleep. Wisely, after that she left the teaching job but that didn’t stop her from looking for other ways to advance her career.

Stella came up with the idea of a mentoring program to get more young women interested in a firefighting career. However, not being an officer again caused a problem—she needed an officer to co-sponsor the project. Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) pointed her in the direction of his former partner Wendy Seager (recurring guest star Andy Allo). And though Stella resisted at first, given Seager’s effusive praise of her boyfriend, she relented and the two launched the “Girls on Fire” program together.

The season ended with one of Stella’s teenage recruits having not shown up, but other than that, all seemed to be well in her world.
