More from Chicago PD

Rojas replaced Antonio, and then got replaced

Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) was sent to rehab again off-screen, and Chicago Fire eventually revealed that he was working with his sister Gabriela (Monica Raymund) in Puerto Rico.

In his place, Chicago PD introduced Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez), a young undercover officer. A lot of time was spent on Rojas and her backstory, but you don’t need to know any of it, because Rojas will not be coming back for season 8.

Like Jon Seda, Lisseth Chavez was let go from the series by producers. If you enjoyed her work, though, she quickly got a series regular gig on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, which airs on The CW.

Burgess got pregnant

Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) hooked up with former fiance Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) at the end of the season’s three-show crossover, and later discovered that she was pregnant with Ruzek’s baby.

Unfortunately, in the most heart-wrenching plot twist of the season, Chicago PD had Kim risk her life to save a young woman from a violent suspect, and in the fight with said suspect, she lost the unborn child.

The situation put strain on the Burzek relationship, including Adam having some kind of a vague thing with a bartender, but he and Kim still seemed very much into each other by season’s end.

Oh, and Kim’s other love interest Sean Roman (Brian Geraghty) returned, ultimately murdering the man who killed his sister while Intelligence pretended they didn’t know.

Halstead had a terrible season

Season 7 was a miserable season for Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). It started with him getting chewed out by Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) for arresting Kate Brennan for the murder of her former boss Brian Kelton (John C. McGinley). Then Jay almost got infected during the “Infection” crossover.

And then he ended up carrying the emotional baggage from getting an innocent man killed in jail, and Voight’s subsequent decision to scapegoat the dead man. Jay tried to help the man’s widow, but when she found out who he actually was, she shot him. So basically, despite Jay Halstead still trying to do the right thing, all he got was grief and a bullet.

In all this, his partner Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) almost confessed her feelings for him, so at least he has that to look forward to in season 8?
