Who’s returning in Chicago Fire season 9?

The Chicago Fire season 9 cast includes Jesse Spencer, Taylor Kinney, Miranda Rae Mayo, Kara KIllmer, David Eigenberg, Joe Minoso, Christian Stolte, Alberto Rosende, and Eamonn Walker.

Annie Ilonzeh, who portrayed paramedic Emily Foster, is not returning. Producers chose not to bring her back after two seasons.

Who replaced Foster on Chicago Fire?

Foster is being replaced by a character named Gianna Mackey, played by actress Adriyan Rae (you may have seen her as the star of the SyFy series Vagrant Queen, which lasted just one season).

Gianna will be introduced in the first episode of season 9. As of now, it’s not known if Foster will appear in the season premiere to get an on-screen farewell.

Other Chicago Fire changes

Aside from the departure of Annie Ilonzeh, the show has been fairly stable between seasons; it’s the least changed of the three One Chicago series.

Dick Wolf has confirmed that COVID-19 will be part of the show’s universe. One way that’s going to happen is that you’ll see fewer civilians in the Firehouse 51 bullpen, but keep an eye out for how that will affect plots in other ways, especially in the huge rescue scenes which normally attract a large crowd.
