Chicago PD season 8, episode 1 synopsis plus promo.

The Chicago PD season 8 premiere is about to arrive, so here’s everything NBC has released about Chicago PD season 8, episode 1.

Wednesday’s first episode is entitled “Fighting Ghosts” and should not be confused with the season 5 episode “Ghosts.” It also shouldn’t be confused with another season 5 episode, “Reform,” because the plot sounds a little similar to that installment.

In this hour, Intelligence looks into the shooting of a young girl while dealing with changes that are happening around them as a result of a renewed push for police reform. The episode introduces a new recurring character, Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller (played by Empire alum Nicole Ari Parker), who is the face of that reform and the next person Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) gets to deal with.

There will be some continuation of the Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) storyline, as he’s also mentioned in the synopsis, but it sounds like his ongoing problem is going to be just a portion of this episode rather than the focus. So if you were expecting an Atwater-heavy episode, this won’t be it, but it sounds like the show is trying to introduce multiple new storylines along with finishing the existing one.

Here’s how NBC officially describes the Chicago PD season premiere:

"The team responds to the shooting of a 5-year-old girl and they must work the case while facing new obstacles that come from the heightened attention on police reform. Atwater is targeted by a group of officers who want to hurt him for standing against the blue wall. Voight questions whether he’s cut out for a new form of policing as he manages oversight from the CPD’s deputy superintendent."

This season, instead of doing individual promos for each series, the network has also decided to do one single teaser for the entire One Chicago franchise. So in lieu of a promo for this episode in itself here’s the general ad spot that’s been running since last week:
