Chicago Fire’s Eamonn Walker is reaching out to Chicago children.

Eamonn Walker‘s character on Chicago Fire is a mentor to the firefighters of Firehouse 51, and off-screen, the actor is doing his part to guide the city’s young people.

Walker is the driving force behind the One Chicago: Inspire Youth program, which since 2017 has united cast and crew members from the One Chicago franchise with Chicago-area youth for show and tell sessions, aiming to inspire them and introduce them to potential careers in the arts.

The program has partnered with local non-profit organizations By The Hand and Sky Art, and is now continuing its mission on Zoom to keep reaching kids during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among those who have participated are Walker’s Chicago Fire co-stars David Eigenberg and Kara Killmer, and several crew members.

“Our cast and crew have the ability to educate and stimulate young minds with concepts, theories and practical knowledge,” Eamonn explained in a recent Wolf Entertainment release. “Our work and artistry can be an incubator by which we affect a young person’s way of thinking.

“We address and abate the inferiority complex that comes from the circumstances of being from a challenged neighborhood,” he added. “By showing up and forming relationships, we show that this world is available and open. They can focus on this instead of the other opportunities on the street corner. This is about touching young lives.”

It’s one of several ways that crew and cast members from the franchise are involved in doing good throughout their community. Another example is Patrick Lives On, which aims to help youth avoid gun violence and find positive ways forward, which was founded by Chicago PD script supervisor Patricia Frontain.
