3. Torrey DeVitto leaves Chicago Med

As Chicago Med season 6 came to a close, Natalie Manning’s future at Med looked uncertain and, while this wasn’t the first time a season had ended with the fate of a beloved doctor left up in the air, something about this storyline felt a more foreboding than those past instances.

Our fears about Natalie’s future at Med would end up being confirmed over the summer when it was announced that Torrey DeVitto would be departing the series and would not return as a series regular in season 7.

Despite an exit storyline having clearly been lined up in the event that DeVitto did not choose to return — DeVitto’s contract expired after the show’s sixth season — we have to confess that we weren’t quite compared to say goodbye to Natalie when season 7 rolled around this fall.

The one silver lining with this cast departure was that we did get some closure in the form of one final appearance from DeVitto at the top of the season 7 premiere, as the show tied up the loose ends from the season 6 finale and clued us in on Natalie’s plans for the future.

While Med has welcomed some great new additions this season, things aren’t quite the same without Natalie and we can only hope DeVitto might return again down the line when the timing is right.
