1. Jesse Spencer leaves Chicago Fire

Was there really any doubt that Jesse Spencer’s departure as Matt Casey would rank as the most shocking One Chicago cast exit of 2021?!

Heading into Chicago Fire season 10, there were a lot of questions about whether the show was about to bid farewell to another longtime cast member thanks to the season 9 finale’s shocking cliffhanger.

While we had all summer to wrap our heads around the idea of losing someone from Squad or possibly Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) via a promotion that could have been used as an exit storyline, we never anticipated the character who would be departing the show would be the one we least expected — that character being Captain Casey.

Although the writers began to plant the seeds that would flourish into his departure across the first episodes of the season, we never expected Casey would actually leave town nor that his exit would occur in the show’s 200th episode.

Fortunately, Casey is still very much alive and well, but we still haven’t gotten over the shock that came when we watched the 200th episode for the first time and realized Jesse Spencer was actually stepping away from the show after nearly a decade with the franchise.

Casey’s exit will forever remain one of the most shocking moments in the One Chicago franchise’s history and was a curveball that has continued to keep us talking long the final curtain fell on our beloved Captain.
