Chicago Fire season 9, episode 3 preview: Smash Therapy
Chicago Fire season 9, episode 3 preview.
This week’s Chicago Fire comes with a fair amount of buzz, because One Chicago fans have been waiting for the show to return since November. It’s going to be worth the wait.
Wednesday’s episode “Smash Therapy” doesn’t include a cliffhanger to resolve like most of the show’s spring premieres have, but it does involve a big fire of the week story that should generate plenty of excitement anyway.
The main plot involves Mouch (Christian Stolte) facing renewed self-doubt after he has problems with the aerial ladder during a call, putting other people’s lives at risk.

It should be noted that there is no indication Christian Stolte is departing from Chicago Fire, so fans don’t need to worry that Mouch might quit. But it’s got to be a very sore subject for the character by now.
Elsewhere in the episode, the synopsis indicates that fans will see fallout from the botched moment between Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). If it’s anything like how the rest of the will they, won’t they between them has gone, this is going to be kind of awkward.
The question is how awkward the show wants to make it. Audiences have been watching the signs of a potential Brett and Casey romance for over two seasons now, and at some point, they will get tired of the back and forth. This is a step back for them, but will it be a major problem or something they have a chance at working on?
And keep an eye out for Gianna Mackey (Adriyan Rae). This will be the first time Gianna has been around to be a potential sounding board for her new partner. How will she react to the news, as opposed to how Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) would’ve handled it?
There’s plenty of drama to be had this week, both inside and outside the firehouse.
