Chicago Fire season 9, episode 4 recap: Funny What Things Remind Us
The doughnut war
Stella has enlisted Brett to help her with her exam prep, which means they’re both outside when the driver from the accident comes looking for Casey. Brett is not impressed but Sydney goes on in and gives Casey her card. Cue the obligatory cuts to Brett outside, both before and after Sydney waltzes off.
Casey goes with Mouch, Stella and Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende) to prank Chuck so that he can have his own awkward moment. They’re caught by Chuck’s boss, who asks Casey if Brett’s seeing anybody. Casey says she’s not. So there.
Mouch shows Frank that he’s rebranded the other man’s firehouse with some new signage (“Rutledge’s House of Do-Nuts” and “House 40,” the zero being a donut) before plastering it on social media.
Severide and Boden visit the mystery man at Chicago Med, where a doctor tells them that if they don’t find a relative, he’ll be admitted to the psychiatric ward as a John Doe. That would be a cue to bring in Dr. Daniel Charles, but we don’t. Boden and Severide decide to go back to the house to look for clues. They discover from the man’s missing hat that he belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police and the number he gave was his badge number.
After Chicago Fire casually has Gianna Mackey (Adriyan Rae) mention “my kids,” Stella vents to Brett about her frustrations with Severide just before Chuck’s boss formally introduces himself to Brett. Casey conveniently sidles up to the bar in time to see them drinking, and decides that he needs a really stiff drink.
