Chicago Med season 6, episode 4 recap: In Search of Forgiveness, Not Permission
At all costs
Ethan seems to brush that off, though, as he’s then taking on his next case: another doctor named Todd who decided to perform cosmetic surgery on himself. “I’m not gonna settle for anything less than perfection,” he says, just before we see his handiwork in gross detail. Choi goes immediately to Charles, while the nurses are starting to complain to Maggie about him.
Elsewhere, Will is taking to another patient about his clinical trial, but the man only agrees after Will assures him that coming to the hospital is safe. Will tells April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) that he’s “behind on [his] quota.” April replies that she wants to help him, comparing it to the sense of purpose she got working in the COVID-19 ward. That feels like an odd comparison, but hey, we don’t get enough Will and April scenes.
Natalie finds a cancerous tumor in her latest patient’s abdomen and summons Crockett. He assures Isabella that he can remove at least some of the tumor surgically, but that plan is thwarted by the hospital’s chief oncologist. Natalie and Crockett try to go over her head to Goodwin, but she refuses to override the decision. Crockett goes to break the bad news.
After Charles and Choi disagree about Todd, and Maggie finds out that her foster son Auggie might be getting sick again, Will goes to another doctor looking for more patients—but the other man wants money to send them his way. Will won’t give it to him, so he changes his mind and Will leaves in disgust. At least April encourages him when he gets back to Chicago Med.
Natalie examines Auggie and tells Maggie the worst: that his liver is failing and he’ll need a transplant. Goodwin then tells Maggie that since he’s not critical, his chances of a transplant are low. As for Natalie, she discovers that Crockett is operating on Isabella anyway…only to find out that the oncologist was right. Well, now that he’s poking around inside her, they’ve got no choicde but to go forward with a risky procedure. Natalie reluctantly scrubs in.
