Chicago PD season 8, episode 5 recap: In Your Care
The violence escalates
Chicago PD then has Upton and Halstead almost crash into the grey SUV. While Upton goes to help the next victim Halstead, Ruzek and Burgess chase the suspects. But apparently everyone gets away because the next scene is everyone comparing notes. Halstead suggests that it might not be cars that the crew are after.
Burgess gets a call from Makayla’s social worker to find out that the girl has been reunited with her guardian Kathy which seems to put her mind at ease. After that Upton explains the real commonity: the kids are male prostitutes robbing the men trying to pick them up. “Let’s find these kids before they get more desperate,” Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) says.
Burgess is reminded of losing her baby and asks Ruzek if the trauma is why they’re so close now. “It’s not real,” she says, which he objects to. They canvass a neighborhood and Burgess recognizes one of the suspects; she chases Miguel until he runs into a barbed-wire fence. Miguel refuses to cooperate so Kim suggests following him back to the rest of the crew.
She also stops to ask Atwater what kind of support he needed when he first became a surrogate parent, because she wants to offer help to Makayla’s guardian Kathy. Kathy admits that she can’t be a mother to Makayla and Chicago PD cuts to some pill bottles before it dawns on Kim that she’s already given the kid back to DCFS.
After she gets yelled at by Kathy, she and Ruzek spot Miguel now covered in blood. He leads them to a condemned house where another one of the suspects is badly hurt after being beaten by the man she prostituted herself out to.
