Chicago PD season 8, episode 6 preview: Equal Justice
When Chicago PD sends its characters undercover, things tend to come out, and this week’s episode doesn’t seem like it’s going to be any different.
“Equal Justice” centers on an undercover operation for Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), who are investigating a crime ring—what kind of crime isn’t clear yet. From the promo it looks like it might involve drugs, as many episodes do.
Intelligence has spent a fair amount of time undercover and those tend to be episodes where the writers sneak in some personal revelations or conflicts.

It took Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) going undercover for them to converse about Ruzek. When Adam went undercover a few seasons ago, that’s when he last saw his father Bob (Jack Coleman).

Considering recent developments, it seems like this plot would be a prime setup for Halstead and Ruzek to end up talking about how Halstead is now dating Ruzek’s ex-girlfriend Upton. If PD stays with its usual approach, Halstead’s relationship with Upton will unintentionally come up somehow and then they’ll have to talk about it awkwardly.
A bigger issue is Ruzek’s relationship with Burgess. Last Wednesday’s episode saw Kim making a huge decision and then telling Ruzek about it—and he wasn’t seen afterward, suggesting that he might not be comfortable with her becoming a foster mom. Many episodes of One Chicago series start with a “slice of life” moment, so perhaps “Equal Justice” will give some clarity on where Kim and Adam’s relationship stands now that she has a child to care for.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if the episode picks up where last week left off, with Kim settling Makayla in at home, and we’ll find out if Ruzek is still there and/or what his feelings are about this new living arrangement. This plot doesn’t sound particularly gripping in terms of case of the week, but it’s almost certainly going to push the personal drama at the 21st District forward.
