Chicago PD season 8, episode 6 recap: Equal Justice
Halstead’s dilemma
After Intelligence impounds Dante’s car and uncovers even more texts, Voight tells his team to arrest K-Mac. They roll up only to hear shots fired and realize K-Mac has been shot. Halstead chases the shooter but the man gets into his car and flees the scene. It doesn’t take a genius to guess who it was, although our heroes assume it must be Dante. Dante denies this when he’s hauled in for a formal interview.
Chicago PD has Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) find the getaway car on city cameras and Jay looks very perturbed. He arrives alone at Latrell’s body shop and lo and behold, there’s the car. Halstead reports this to Voight, who gets him to admit that he gave the man more information than he should. “Latrell shouldn’t even be in this position,” Halstead opines, saying that both of them might do the same thing. He asks Voight what he’d do; Voight tells him that he needs to do what makes sense for him.
So what does Halstead ultimately decide to do? In true Chicago PD fashion, he goes outside the lines.
He goes back to Latrell’s garage, saying that the other man reminds him of his father, before asking what he did with the murder weapon. Latrell says he tossed it into the river, and Halstead replies, “Good.” He goes on to tell him to keep his mouth shut and ask for a lawyer before formally arresting him.
The show then reveals that Voight has been sitting outside the garage this whole time, ostensibly to see what choice Jay would make.
