Chicago Med actress Paula Newsome starring in CSI reboot
Former Chicago Med player Paula Newsome is going to star in the CSI reboot.
Newsome, who recurred as Caroline Charles for two seasons on Chicago Med, has been cast as a series regular on CBS‘ new CSI project, currently titled CSI: Vegas. Her casting was one of several announced in multiple media reports.
While no official description of her character has been released, Deadline Hollywood claims that her character Maxine will be the head of the Las Vegas crime lab in the miniseries. Maxine is billed as “a top-flight scientist and a leader in the field of genetics.”
However, her personal life is in shambles; she’s recently divorced and her son is an opioid addict.

Paula Newsome is known to One Chicago fans for her story in which Caroline was reunited with ex-husband Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) when she battled an illness. In the course of her treatment at the hospital, the two of them reconciled and eventually remarried.

However, last season the show had Caroline’s illness return to the dismay of Daniel and their daughter Robin (Mekia Cox); Caroline was killed off-screen, and Daniel is now in the middle of a custody battle with another ex-wife (Jill Abramovitz) over their teenage daughter Anna (Hannah Alligood).
Newsome’s casting on CSI: Vegas brings her back to CBS where she had a similar role—she recurred for years as Director Leon Vance’s (Rocky Carroll) wife on NCIS, before she was also killed off that show.
Originally billed as a revival, the upcoming CSI series is now looking more like a reboot as it seems to only involve two of the show’s original cast—William Petersen (who portrayed Gil Grissom) and Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle). Newsome, Matt Lauria (The Chicago Code) and Mel Rodriguez will be playing new characters.
Furthermore, Deadline claims that while the project is being called a “limited series,” CBS is now considering extending it into a full-blown show. The reboot does not yet have a premiere date.
