Chicago PD season 8, episode 8 synopsis and promo: Protect and Serve
This week’s Chicago PD is tackling racism head-on, as revealed by the episode information that NBC has released for Wednesday.
In the next installment “Protect and Serve,” Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) are tasked with arresting a cop after he shoots a civilian during a traffic stop. Further complicating the issue is that the officer is white, and the person he shot is black.
The series has discussed issues of race and police misconduct before, including earlier this season as it had the Atwater vs. other cops storyline that started at the end of season 7. Atwater spoke up against racial profiling and found himself targeted by other officers, which only ended when he threatened to take the issue public and take everyone down with him.
But this episode is clearly constructed to address the biggest issues surrounding police today, so it’ll be interesting to see the show’s point of view—and how thoroughy it’s able to dive into those topics while still having to tell a 42-minute story.
