Chicago PD: Did Bob Ruzek get off way too easy?
The latest Chicago PD episode “The Radical Truth” felt similar to “Fathers and Sons” from the sixth season. Once again Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) had to get his father Bob (returning guest star Jack Coleman) out of trouble after discovering that his dad was involved in something he shouldn’t be.
In this episode, Adam discovered that Bob had been kidnapped by one of his former confidential informants, who had subsequently risen to a high position in a Hispanic gang. Bob had gone to the suspect for a loan to pay off an $80,000 gambling debt, and when the gang discovered someone in their ranks was a mole, the suspect used Bob’s weakness to make him try and find the snitch.
Bob, in turn, offered up Adam to do the dirty work once he’d been abducted from his home.
Wednesday’s installment at least didn’t kill off Bob Ruzek, which is a surprise considering how often the whole One Chicago franchise likes to do terrible things to characters’ family members. But it did wrap things up for him pretty easily. Adam was forced to kill Bob’s abductor, which enabled Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) to deliver an overly simplified file to Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller that didn’t mention how Bob had betrayed his badge.
The end of the episode showed Bob happily retired and partying it up. Though Adam left the retirement party in disgust, it didn’t appear Bob would face any consequences or seemed to be that affected by what he’d just been through. Similar to that season 6 episode, aside from one confrontation between father and son, he doesn’t seem to be any different. Maybe now that he’s retired, he’ll stop making Adam’s life difficult. We can only hope.
