Chicago Fire: So, will Stella pass the lieutenant’s test?

The end of this week’s Chicago Fire episode “Don’t Hang Up” had Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) literally on her way out the door to take her lieutenant’s exam. So the only question to really ask is how this storyline, which has spanned all season—two if you count how she tried to move her career forward last year—is going to finally resolve.

If you look at it logically, we’ll probably see Lieutenant Kidd in the next episode, or at least by the end of the season (depending on how long it’ll take Stella to get her test results back). After all the time that the show has put into this plot, it would seem like a waste if the whole thing ends with Stella failing. Also, what kind of message would that send to the One Chicago audience—you work super-hard and impress a Deputy Commissioner yet still come up short?

But nothing is for certain, and since Chicago Fire already has two lieutenants and a captain at the firehouse, it’s not a totally done deal. It depends on how the writers could fit in the house having a third lieutenant. Would Stella keep her same job, and just have a higher rank?

Or will it be like what we saw with Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) where she’d have to take on additional duties as an officer? If so, where would those responsibilities be since everyone else seems to have things covered pretty well? With how much Chicago Fire loves Stella it feels like she’ll get the promotion, but it also has to make sense for the overall picture of the show, too.
