The next Chicago PD will be another Hailey Upton and Upstead-centric episode, per the details that NBC has released about what’s coming up this Wednesday.

In “Safe,” Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) takes the lead on investigating multiple home invasions, and gets caught up in the case—something One Chicago fans have already seen her do in season 8. This time, however, it causes some conflict within the Intelligence Unit.

Upton finds herself with boss Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and partner/boyfriend Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) on opposite sides. Upton has become a sort of reflection of Voight, but there’s no one she’s closer to than Jay, so this could get messy pretty fast.

However, it’ll be a treat for audience members who are Upton fans or who have been rooting for the Upstead relationship, because we should get plenty of screen time for Jay and Hailey within this storyline.

Watch the promotional spot related to this episode below. What’s interesting is that it focuses solely on the Upstead relationship, rather than whatever about the case has Upton caught in the middle. Or is it the relationship that impacts her professionally? Let the speculation begin!

After all, why does Voight seem to have a problem with Upstead when people have been hooking up within Intelligence for pretty much the whole run of the series? Longtime viewers will recall that the idea of interoffice relationships was an issue at the start of this show but that didn’t last long and dating has become commonplace now.
