Chicago Fire season 9, episode 14 preview: What Comes Next

The next episode of Chicago Fire has a pretty apt title.

One Chicago fans are absolutely wondering “What Comes Next.” Will Firehouse 51 have a third lieutenant in the mix? What’s next for Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) now that he knows that his career isn’t over? Will we have another One Chicago baby by the end of the season?

There’s a lot up in the air right now, and while this installment won’t answer all those questions, i should start setting things up for the season finale.

After this episode, there are just two episodes remaining in season 9, which means it’s time to start answering some questions and also setting up some drama for the finale. Especially on this show, which always likes its season finales to be as dramatic as humanly possible.

So while the synopsis sounds a bit mundane, there might be more to it than that.

We know from the promo that this Chicago Fire episode will reveal if Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) passed the lieutenant’s test. Hopefully she did, because failing would not only be sad for her, but for the fans who watched that storyline unfold throughout season 9.

But what about everyone else? There’s another story about Firehouse 51 investigating a fire that seems suspicious, which is practically their modus operandi at this point, and a subplot about the firehouse garage sale.

Could somebody dig up something in a closet that everyone forgot about, similar to how Joe Cruz found Otis’s drone in a previous season? Or is there something not listed in the synopsis that will come into play?

Whatever happens, this seems like a bigger episode than it appears. Watch and see if it lays any metaphorical bread crumbs for where this season will end.
