There are just two more episodes left this Chicago PD season. But is Chicago PD season 8 coming to Netflix after it completes its first run on NBC?

The eighth season has been shortened down to just 16 installments because production was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s still been relatively busy. The series introduced a new boss and foil in Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller (recurring guest star Nicole Ari Parker).

Meanwhile, Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) has adopted a daughter and Upstead is now an official couple—and with the season finale in sight, there’s probably going to be at least one more surprise on the way.

But for One Chicago fans who haven’t seen every episode, or who prefer to binge-watch, will the current season make it to Netflix this summer?

Is Chicago PD season 8 coming to Netflix?

Simply put, don’t expect to see Chicago PD season 8 on Netflix. Not now and probably not for the forseeable future.

TV viewers know that streaming comes down to rights issues, and Netflix has never had the rights to the series. None of the previous seasons are on that platform; instead, NBCUniversal put it on Hulu.

What Hulu offered has changed over the years—sometimes it was just the current season that was on TV, sometimes it was the full series, and other times it was only the five latest episodes. A handful of installments are still on Hulu.

But when NBCU got into the streaming game with Peacock, it took every episode of Chicago PD for that service. Chicago PD season 8 is currently available on Peacock and there’s no reason to think it’s going to go anywhere after the season is over.

NBC has no reason to sell rights to anyone else when it has its own streamer and can entice people to sign up for Peacock because of the One Chicago shows. It should have the full season up the day after the finale airs on NBC, which will be Thursday, May 27.
