One Chicago ratings were steady for the new episodes on Wednesday, May 12, but still not as massive as fans are used to.

The live viewership for this week’s installments was about three million people more compared to this same time last year. But NBC was airing reruns on May 13, 2020, so you can really see how a new episode vs. a repeat makes all the difference!

Here are this week’s live viewership (non-DVR, non-streaming) numbers, compared to the figures from a year ago, and additional info from the latest ratings data.

Chicago Med
Total live viewers: 6.81 million
Live viewers in 2020: 3.99 million
Ranking (out of 15 broadcast TV shows that aired Wednesday night): 2

Chicago Fire
Total live viewers: 6.85 million
Live viewers in 2020: 4.1 million
Ranking (out of broadcast TV shows): 1

Chicago PD
Total live viewers: 5.83 million
Live viewers in 2020: 4.03 million
Ranking (out of broadcast TV shows): 3

While PD once again brings up the rear, the numbers for Fire and Med are just about even. And the franchise continues to dominate Wednesday evenings. However, there’s some room for growth.

We’ve seen the One Chicago franchise reach more than 8 million viewers, depending on the week, so to see numbers under 7 million is surprising. It’s not bad; most TV shows would still love those numbers. But it would also be great to have the series reaching the even bigger highs that viewers know they can.

Are viewers just experiencing close to end-of-season fatigue? Did some people potentially forget a new episode was on with how the series have gone back and forth between reruns and originals for the last two months? Whatever the reason, these numbers are impressive, but not as amazing as they have been.

However, that’ll change once we get to the season finales; finales typically command some of the biggest live ratings of the season, because fans and even casual viewers want to know how things end or if there are any big changes (like cast members leaving).
