The next Chicago Fire is all about characters moving forward in their careers, according to the information that’s been released by NBC about Wednesday’s episode.

“A White-Knuckle Panic” is an interesting title for an episode that seems more celebratory. Now that Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) has made Lieutenant, Firehouse 51 has to figure out where she goes from here. Literally, since 51 already has its share of Lieutenants.

Will her colleagues be able to find a role for her at the officer level, or will Stella have to transfer to another house in order to keep her new promotion? This storyline should answer the new speculation about Miranda Rae Mayo leaving the series, because either Stella will get a new job of some kind, or she won’t.

Also, there’s an “event” brewing, which fans know from last week is Mouch (Christian Stolte) getting an award for his heroics earlier in the season. That’s also good news, so where’s the bad news? It feels like there’s something missing.

Remember that this is also the last episode before the season finale, so be on the lookout for any big reveals or setups for the end of season 9 (most likely in the final few minutes of this episode).

Chicago Fire season 9, episode 15 synopsis

Here’s the official synopsis for this episode released by the network. As usual, it provides the basic details of the two major plotlines and that’s it. (Although it’s probably safe to assume everyone who isn’t mentioned by name is probably involved in the second storyline, since that’s much more of a group plot.)

"Severide and Casey try to find the best fit for Kidd. Ritter, Gallo and Violet help plan an event for Mouch."
