One of the things that has always made NBC’s One Chicago so unique and special is the interconnectivity of the three shows. While there are many TV franchise universes out there, the One Chicago franchise has managed to set itself apart from the crowd by truly creating an interconnected universe that often sees the characters from Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago PD crossing over between shows organically on a consistent basis.

From the members of 51 casually bumping into various members of the team at Med while dropping off or checking in on a patient to members of the Intelligence Unit stepping in to lend a hand when 51 stumbles upon a concerning situation, the One Chicago franchise has beautifully used the ensembles of its three shows to develop a franchise unlike any other.

Beyond its crossovers as part of storylines introduced in one-off episodes, the franchise has also become known for its annual One Chicago Crossover events which carry one storyline across all three shows. These crossovers have become a staple among fans and a must-watch event each season, which is why many were disappointed by the fact that there was no One Chicago crossover event during the 2020-21 season of the shows.

While the writers were able to work in some one-off crossovers, pulling off a massive three-show crossover event was simply not possible amid the pandemic. As such, there was no big sweeping multi-episode crossover event this year.

The good news, though, is that after skipping the crossover in 2020, the odds of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago PD coming together for a One Chicago crossover in 2021 are looking more favorable!

Will there be a One Chicago crossover next season?

Although NBC has not yet officially announced plans for a One Chicago crossover in 2021, Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas has revealed the creative teams are already working on ideas for the next crossover between Fire, Med, and PD and he is incredibly optimistic there will be a crossover for fans to enjoy this year.

As Hass revealed when discussing Chicago Fire season 10 plans with TVLine:

"“We’ve already started talking about ideas for it and to do one in the vein of ‘Infection,’ where it was three big episodes with all three shows represented in all three hours. That would be ideal. Hopefully, the pandemic will be closer to being under control by then, and we’ll have more people back and we can cross people over a bit more easily.”"

When is the next Chicago Fire crossover event?

Not only is it looking likely a One Chicago crossover will be coming in 2021, but it seems fans won’t have to wait too long to see the casts of Chicago Fire, Med and PD come together again for an epic night of programming!

While details are still being working on, it has been revealed by Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas that the One Chicago crossover is being eyed to take place during the second episodes of each series.

Should the new seasons kick off in late September, that means we could see the next One Chicago crossover event arrive as early as the first week of October 2021!
