What’s next for Hank Voight in Chicago PD season 9?
Our prognosis
The biggest question for Voight is whether or not his relationship with Samantha Miller is going to continue. Chicago PD goes through supervisors fairly quickly, with the last few only around for finite story arcs. With Miller’s son having died during the season-ending human trafficking case, it’s possible she could resign, although the fact that season 9 is picking up pretty soon after the end of season 8 suggests that she’d probably be in at least the new season’s premiere.
Or given how positively many viewers responded to the dynamic between Voight and Miller, the producers could decide to keep her around even though the reform topic seems to be over now. And if she stays, will they continue to be allies and friends? What would it be like if Hank finally has a boss that he likes and who isn’t actively working against him? That’d be a welcome change of pace from most of his previous overseers. (What happened to Superintendent Crawford? Did he just take a very long vacation?)
Past that, where is Voight going in the future? He’s got a new boss, and it’s great that he’s trying to help his junior officers, but what about him personally? Is there something he wants out of the rest of his career? Or we haven’t explored his personal life too much, other than people from his past coming back and causing problems. There has to be another cool Voight story out there. We could have an episode where Hank and Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) work a case together for some reason and reminisce?
