As we continue to look back on Chicago Fire season 9, we’re breaking down the season for each of the show’s characters.

Did your favorite character have a good season or a bad season? What were their strong points and were there any weaknesses? Was the character affected by the show’s writing, or vice versa? Where could they go from here?

Check out our detailed character breakdown, and let us know your thoughts on how this season was for each character in the comments.

In this article, we’re profiling Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo).

What happened

Stella had one of the busiest seasons of any Chicago Fire character, because the show not only continued her storyline of pushing her career in the department forward but also threw in some major developments in her relationship with Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney).

The former saw her have a number of heroic moments, whether it was being up in a tree trying to get a victim down in one piece or avoiding innocent bystanders while driving to a fire, that served to show One Chicago viewers how talented a firefighter is Stella is. These moments were placed throughout the season while Stella prepared and then prepared some more for the lieutenant’s test, which she ultimately passed near the end of the season.

Unfortunately, the bump in rank also meant she needed to move to a firehouse that had a vacancy for a lieutenant—something that the writers explored in the final two episodes.

Stella’s personal relationships also experienced significant growth. She personally got kudos from the Deputy Commissioner and developed a favorable relationship with the other woman, and the next to last episode saw Severide propose marriage to Stella (in the middle of a burning building, no less!) Stella accepted his proposal, though the two haven’t tied the knot yet.

Plus, the episode “Don’t Hang Up” saw Stella save the life of a young girl that she didn’t even know she had affected. So whatever way you slice it, Stella Kidd was a boss throughout the majority of the latest Chicago Fire season.
