Where will Maggie Lockwood go in Chicago Med season 7?

Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) is often more of a supporting character, but was given two major storylines in the sixth season, both of which had to do with family. Early in the season, she made the difficult decision to give up her foster son Auggie when she discovered that he had family elsewhere.

Then at the end of the season, Maggie’s search for the daughter she had given up for adoption as a teenager culminated with her discovering that the girl just happened to be a medical student in the hospital’s new class! Though she never told Vanessa (recurring guest star Asjha Cooper) they were related, Vanessa sussed it out and decided they should keep their distance.

While it was great to see more screen time for Maggie this past season, because Marlyne Barrett is such a wonderful actress, it was a shame that both of her plots had to be so angsty.

Fans know that Vanessa will be staying at Chicago Med, so presumably she’ll pop up on some kind of recurring basis next season. And while she wants to keep things low-key, it’d be nice if Maggie was able to develop some kind of a relationship with her daughter (that didn’t involve her hovering or otherwise interjecting the way she did in season 6).

Plus, how long can that really stay under the radar? Usually on TV shows when characters want to keep a secret, it ends up coming out (see: Natalie Manning and the pills). So will there be some plot next season that forces Maggie and Vanessa to reveal they’re related? Hopefully it won’t be one of those stories where the One Chicago franchise injures the family member of a loved one—we’ve seen so many of those by now.

Outside of that, with April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) moving on, Maggie has just lost her number two. It’s not known yet if the series is going to cast another nurse to replace April in the main cast, but somebody’s going to have to fill her spot in the ED, so there’s a relationship there which could be developed, too.
