In this article, we’re profiling Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney).
What happened
The longest-running plotline for Severide in Chicago Fire season 9 involved him supporting his girlfriend Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) as she prepared to take the lieutenant’s exam. While the couple hit a rough patch when Kelly found out some people thought Stella’s advancement was only because of their involvement and he tried to put some distance between them as a result, the duo eventually made up and he continued to support her throughout the rest of the process.
After Stella made Lieutenant, Severide made a leap of his own and proposed to her, so the duo are now engaged.
Outside of that story, Severide got into a few good case of the week investigations with Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) while they looked into suspicious fires, such as one with some dangerous detergent causing laundromats to go up in flames. And early in the season we got some Severide and Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) scenes when Severide accompanied Boden to check on some condemned buildings.
But what most One Chicago fans are likely thinking about is the season 9 finale, in which Severide and his team were stuck underwater during a rescue attempt and running out of air. Viewers have been speculating that Taylor Kinney is leaving the series and that Severide will be killed off during the season 10 premiere.
