What happened
Matthew Casey probably had the most hectic season of any Chicago Fire character. The good part of that is that he had storylines for every aspect of his character—personal, professional, and his love life—but the bad news is it threw him into all kinds of turmoil.
One Chicago fans freaked out thinking that Jesse Spencer might leave the series when Casey got a head injury in the episode “Double Red” and worried that his firefighting career was in doubt. For a while, it seemed like he might have to resign from the fire department! But it turned out to be no big deal, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
Personally, we got to see Casey’s sister (Nicole Forester) again and there was the mystery of his family watch, which added more color to his backstory. And then there was the very much talked-about Casey and Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). The two continued their back-and-forth for most of the season, until the end of the year when Casey had an (off-screen) conversation with his ex-wife Gabby Dawson that prompted him to admit his feelings for Brett.
The season ended with Brett and Casey finally sleeping together, so they’re finally a couple! But where will that take him from here? And can he stop getting injured for a while?!
