Chicago Fire alum Annie Ilonzeh returning to NBC in new drama Getaway
By Cody Schultz
Annie Ilonzeh might not be making her way back to the Windy City anytime soon, but it seems the Chicago Fire alum has set her sights on a return to NBC by way of a new drama currently in development!
More than a year after exiting Chicago Fire in April 2020, Ilonzeh has joined NBC’s new drama pilot Getaway in what is being described as a lead role. The new series from The Blacklist‘s John Davis and John Fox is currently in development and was among the first pilots ordered by NBC in 2021, making it a promising contender for pickup.
What is NBC’s Getaway about?
Getaway focuses on a destination wedding hosted as a luxurious resort which quickly spirals out of control when a group of criminals descend upon the island and take the entire wedding party hostage. Thrust into unexpected danger, the guests rally to come together in order to do whatever is needed to survive the ordeal.

Here’s how Deadline officially describes the series:
"Getaway centers on a destination wedding at an isolated luxury resort that quickly descends into chaos after a group of dangerous criminals takes the island hostage. The small group of guests, led by a fearless female Army vet, will do everything they can to stay alive."
Who does Annie Ilonzeh play in Getaway?
In the new series, Annie Ilonzeh will be tapping back into Foster’s medical know-hows in playing Army medical vet Tessa Carrillo. After the deaths of her parents, Tessa took it upon herself to take care of her younger sister Grace, putting her career aspirations on hold to do so.
When we catch up with the sisters in the present day, life has taken them on different paths with Tessa hoping to reconnect with her sister at Grace’s wedding — which, of course, won’t go quite according to plan given the plot of the series.
While the series is only in development at this point, we’re optimistic that NBC will proceed with the series thus bringing the return of Ilonzeh to NBC’s line-up once more!
