Chicago Fire boss won’t rule out SPOILER’s return in season 10
By Cody Schultz
There were a lot of standout moments from Chicago Fire season 9, but few compare to the introduction of Lieutenant Greg Grainger played by actor Jon Ecker.
Introduced in season 9, episode 4, “Funny What Things Remind Us,” Grainger immediately hit it off with Brett (Kara Killmer) and a flirtation between the two characters ensued across several episodes. Unfortunately, Grainger’s relationship with Brett proved to be nothing more than a fling as their relationship proved to be nothing more than a flash in a pan.
In season 9, episode 13, “Don’t Hang Up,” Grainger realized Brett’s heart simply wasn’t in their budding relationship in recognizing she clearly hadn’t gotten over her feelings for Casey (Jesse Spencer). This led him to break things off, thus setting the stage for his exit from the show.
Will Jon Ecker return for Chicago Fire season 10?
Although Jon Ecker’s final appearance came several episodes before the season 9 finale, Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas isn’t quite ready to close the door on a possible return of Grainger in the future.
As Haas revealed to TVLine, he too really enjoyed the character and “would definitely want to see him again next season.”

While there have been no plans confirmed, it seems highly likely we could see Ecker suit back up in season 10 in some form. Given how quickly the character managed to capture the hearts of audiences, we’re certain fans will be happy to see Grainger return next season be it for a one-off guest appearance or as part of a new multi-episode guest arc.
